There are several different types of wine-tastings to consider when planning the party; a wine-tasting can be focused on price point, for example.  In this case the host would choose four or five wines of similar varieties in a range of prices, and the tasters would be encouraged to decide which wine was best for its price tag.  Or a host may choose several wines from the same vineyard, as a spotlight on that producer.  Another option is choosing wines that are all local, to become familiar with the wines in one region.

Those hosting the gathering should be sure to provide tasting cards and pens or pencils for the guests to make notes.  Providing a plain bread, and having water available between tastes to cleanse the palate is also a must.
